This is no joke, Disney realy buy Lucasfilm. Crying or Very sad

I think this is not good for Star Wars if the characters begin to sing in the movies... No
Good will be the plan to bring out ever two years a new movie. But if the new movies would be like Episode one they will destroy the war into the stars.

What you guys think about it?

I found out about this in an RP site I go to. It might not be as bad as we think, if you look at what Disney has done with the rights to the Marvel characters.
That being said, if it all goes wrong (which it probably will, knowing us SW fans' luck), you guys can just do what I do: repress the memory of the films, send it to the darkest corner of your psyche and leave it there. Trust me, it works. I remember nothing about Episode 1.

I can't see Disney making a SW worse than episode one.. as sad as that is. I'm going to just hope for the best, if all goes really well (and i mean REALLY well) maybe they will make a great SW that stays with the lore and makes us fans proud Smile
Just staying positive about it.

The latest news about this... they plan to film Episode 7. The most of the old actors like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are interested to take the old characters. As we know Luke opens a Jedi Academy, Han and Leia married... oh... and Chewbacca opens a Coffee-Shop and plays in a rock band. Razz

What do you think? What will you see at Episode 7?

Some "good" news about Star Wars VII... I hope...

After the big "Yes" from J.J. Abrams as director it will be possible to see Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa with the original actors. Now Carrie Fisher confirmed her come back as Leia Organa into an interview into the 'Palm Beach Illustrated'. Some days before Mark Hamill told into an interview that he is willing to do everything to get all of the old actors back in action. I think this could be interesting to see the old age home episode. Smile Storm Troopers with wheeled walker running through the corridor of the Star Destroyers... Leia with her bikini outfit dances for Han...go away bad inner cinema...

Lucasfilm is now under Disney hand Empty Disney closes LucasArts leaving 'Star Wars' games in peril

Post by Thorgal Legion Thu Apr 04, 2013 9:07 am

The next information about "this was a bad idea":

Disney closes LucasArts leaving 'Star Wars' games in peril

Disney closes LucasArts leaving 'Star Wars' games in peril

The Walt Disney Company made a surprise announcement today, saying they are closing the legendary LucasArts video game developer and publisher, USA Today reports. Disney intends to license out work on future games to other companies, rather than having LucasArts create them in house.

A statement from the video game developer says the closing will require layoffs. "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality 'Star Wars' games," it reads.

Disney Interactive, the company's video game publisher, released a statement of their own, saying it "looks forward to working with Lucasfilm on new games opportunities that leverage their incredible IP (intellectual property) and brings it to life across gaming platforms."

With the closing, LucasArts says all current game development has been "halted." That includes projects like the highly-anticipated "Star Wars 1313," which was introduced at the 2012 E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) conference.

Disney purchased Lucasfilm last October, and immediately announced they planned to release more "Star Wars" films, with J.J. Abrams on-board to direct "Episode VII." LucasArts was founded in 1982 and in addition to "Star Wars" games, is known for iconic titles like "The Secret of Monkey Island" and "Maniac Mansion."

Disney Closes Game Publisher LucasArts

Disney Closes Game Publisher LucasArts

Game Informer has learned that Disney is closing its LucasArts game publishing subsidiary. We received an email from a LucasArts representative confirming the news.

The official statement from Disney (which recently acquired LucasFilm and LucasArts) reads as follows:

"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."

In some ways, the news is not a surprise. LucasArts had seemed directionless in recent years. The company's core business of games based on the Star Wars license have been largely disappointing in both quality and sales. While the company had some success with games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and the Battlefront series, both of those franchises seemed to have died on the vine. The cancellation of Star Wars Battlefront III was particularly ugly, which led to nasty public fingerpointing between LucasArts and developer Free Radical. The BioWare developed MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic (which was co-published with EA) won strong reviews but failed to maintain subscribers, and was eventually forced into instituting a free-to-play business model.

LucasArt's other big franchise, Indiana Jones, has failed to make much of a dent in games in recent years, with the exception of Traveller's Tales LEGO Indiana Jones series that, once again, was not developed by LucasArts. Meanwhile, series like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, which are both heavily influenced by the Indiana Jones films, have thrived.

More recently, LucasArts caused a stir at E3 2012 with an impressive looking demo for a new Star Wars project entitled Star Wars 1313. However, in the months that followed, the project seemed to lose steam, and rumors circulated that the game had ceased production. [Update: Today, a LucasArts representative spoke to us about the future of Star Wars 1313]

The company seemed to have a revolving door of management. In 2004, LucasArts president Jim Ward led a massive restructuring of the company, laying off many development staffers in the process. Ward left in 2008, to be replaced by EA's Darrell Rodriguez, who lasted only two years at the head of the company. Rodriguez's position was ultimately filled by Epic Games' Paul Meegan, who then stepped down in 2012. The company was co-led by Kevin Parker and Gio Corsi until it was acquired by Disney.

During that time, LucasArts attempted to inject new life into its in-house development by bringing in respected industry vet Clint Hocking (who helped lead the Far Cry and Splinter Cell franchises at Ubisoft) in as its new creative director. Sadly, Hocking lasted only two years in the position and left without completing the game he had been working on.

The last game published by LucasArts as a company is the sub-par Kinect Star Wars.

Ironically, many of the games for which LucasArts is best remembered for are not Star Wars games. Its genre-defining '90s adventure games created by Ron Gilbert and DoubleFine's Tim Schafer like The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim Fandango are all still celebrated by fans to this day. That said, there were good Star Wars games over the years, including the X-Wing series, Jedi Knight/Dark Forces series, Knights of the Old Republic, Rogue Squadron, Battlefront, and others. The future of these franchises is obviously now probably dim.

Our sympathies go out to those who have lost their jobs today.

I heard about this (especially since it's all over the combine now) and am quite disappointed!

Although I do see a little logic through it. I don't think that SW games are necessarily in peril, if anything this could be better for the Star Wars gaming industry because anybody can produce a Star Wars game now instead of something that just HAS to come out under the Lucas Arts label.

Still, it is going to be a major bummer most likely never seeing that LA symbol in a game again though :/

I'm a little disappointed about 1313 being scrapped, because I thought that looked like it would be pretty good.

The thought of someone like Bethesda getting the chance to make a quality sandbox style SW game is an awesome one though.

Yes!! I was ultimately anticipating 1313, keeping updated on it and everything! Like I stated before on the SWC forums, it looked like it had a certain Mass Effect-feel to it (which I am a big fan of!) It looked like it could have been a pretty good break through! Although I've heard that there are rumors that there's a possibility that 1313 could still go under production in the near future under another label.

And it would be pretty awesome if someone like Bethesda or Bioware got a hold of a SW game. Fallout online sounded like it would have been pretty cool too! Although, I have to say it, being a fan of both the Elder Scrolls and Fallout, I'd have to choose the Elder Scrolls Razz
